Testing the Ligier JSP4 Prototype
The Jolt Racing team has made the step into European endurance motorsport, participating in its first test in the Ligier JSP4 sports prototype race car at Circuit de Magny-Cours in France.
Drivers John Ingram and Rupert Williams both participated in this week’s test at Circuit de Magny-Cours. “The Ligier JSP4 opportunity opens up exciting new horizons for Jolt Racing as we move into sports prototype endurance racing, and I’m looking forward to the next steps” commented John Ingram. “I’m delighted to have made this move forward and, despite it being a large step, I felt very comfortable with the car” added Rupert Williams who delivered a strong performance around the French circuit after 15 laps in the car showcasing his enormous potential.
The Ligier JSP4 is from the Ligier stable of LMP (Le Mans Prototype) sports prototype race cars which includes the LMP3 and LMP2. A Le Mans Prototype (LMP) is the type of sports prototype race car used in various races and championships, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans, FIA World Endurance Championship, IMSA SportsCar Championship, European Le Mans Series and Asian Le Mans Series. Le Mans Prototypes were created by the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO), which is most famous for being the organising entity behind the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The Ligier JS P4 places itself between the CN and the LM P3. It has a carbon fibre monocoque, carbon fibre body and HP composites with a Ford V6 3.7 litre power unit delivering just under 400bhp. The JP P4 is a pure endurance racing car with no production minimum required. It is a closed cockpit car, destined only to teams independent of automotive manufacturers and/or engine suppliers.
The Ligier European Series is the first step of the ACO endurance ladder. It mixes Ligier sports prototypes, the JS P4 and GTs, the JS2 R. The series takes place over six rounds during the European Le Mans Series events. Since 2022, the jewel in the crown of the calendar is the support race slot at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June.
